What type of conditions does the PRESTIGE® Cervical Disc replacement surgery treat?

The PRESTIGE® Cervical Disc can treat many of the conditions that an anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) can; specifically, herniated discs, degenerative discs, osteophyte formation, herniated discs that result in nerve root and/or spinal cord compression. This can include patients with radiculopathies and/or patients with myelopathies, which is cord injury.

Primarily, the PRESTIGE® Cervical Disc is used to treat acute herniated discs. It also might be useful in cases where bone spurs may be affecting one or perhaps two cervical disc levels.

The most common conditions the PRESTIGE® Cervical Disc replacement treats are cervical disc herniation with compression of the exiting nerve root. It may also be appropriate for more chronic conditions where the patient develops an osteophyte (bone spur) that compresses the nerve, causing the same type of radicular symptoms.
